The town of Kilkee is one of the country's most popular seaside resorts with quite a few natural amenities around its horseshoe-shaped bay. The safe sheltered sandy beach is protected by Duggerna Reef, which is a natural wonder itself with some large and small rock pools full of marine life. Breathtaking cliff walks offer splendid scenery. This cliff scenery all along to Loop Head Lighthouse is one of Ireland's greatest natural attractions.
West Clare is one of the last hidden secrets on the Irish tourist map, and especially renowned for its hospitality, the unspoilt nature and for the Irish traditional music, which is kept well alive here.
The Loop Head Peninsula is surrounded by the River Shannon to the South, and by the Atlantic Ocean to the North with a majestic coastal scenery.
The Shannon Estuary is home to more than 100 dolphins which can regularly be seen from the coast or on dolphin watching boat tours from Carrigaholt, just 10 mins. away. The rugged beauty of the area is largely unspoilt - so much so that the area can boast of having the purest air in Europe offering many exciting outdoor activities (see next page). The Loop Head Peninsula was the overall winner of the competition "The best place to holiday in Ireland" by "The Irish Times" in 2013!
Kilrush is a market and heritage town with supermarkets, restaurants and traditional pubs. It provides access to the Shannon River through a modern Marina. One of its most interesting attractions is historical Scattery Island, an Irish landmark which can be reached by a boat from the marina.
The coast road from Kilkee to the North brings you to Doonbeg, Spanish Point, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren.
